Charlene's simple truth was as a beacon of light and positivity. She was the most constant and consistent person too: whenever and wherever you met her, she was her same self, whatever was going on in her own life. I remember countless hotel lounges where we sat and chatted one-to-one after a tiring day, solving the HE world's problems. I remember many education events where to see Charlene simply brightened your day. I remember her constant personal kindness. And I remember one fantastic British Council dinner where she and I were so delighted to flank top sponsor Dave Gardner at the top table because we knew we had "made it". And later that night I discovered what a talented Latin dancer she was! I still can't accept there is an HE world where there isn't Charlene. Huge love and respects to Charlene's loved ones.
