I was lucky to work closely with Charlene when we were at Reading together. I remember the first time I saw her at a Buila event, noticing her as a warm, smiling, confident and engaging woman, and wondering who she was - she had a presence in a room and I could see she held an important place in UKHE. She was lovely to work with and always seemed fair, thoughtful, well informed and kind. Charlene made me laugh a lot too, especially joking about us both being the redheads in the team! I was deeply saddened to learn that she isn't here anymore and send my love and thoughts to her family and the people lucky enough to hold her close as a dear friend.
